Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Korea Choi Sang-mok held a dialogue with Japanese Finance Minister Suzuki Shunichi on April 16th (Tues) on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting in Washington D.C.

DPM Choi met with Finance Minister Suzuki for the first time since taking office. The two ministers exchanged their views on issues, including the current global economy, and the ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The two ministers agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Korea and Japan for the economic development of both countries. They also agreed on the importance of communication and cooperation between the two countries, as partners pursuing common interests in international and regional issues. They committed to continue coordinating efforts in multilateral fora such as the G20 and ASEAN+3.

Regarding foreign exchange market developments, the two ministers shared serious concerns about the recent significant depreciation of the Japanese yen and the Korean won, and expressed their intention to take appropriate actions against excessive movements.

Lastly, the two parties agreed to coordinate the schedule of the 9th Korea-Japan Finance Ministers’ Dialogue in Korea in the near future.
