51st AfDB Annual Meeting

Korea to Host 2018 AfDB Annual Meeting

The 2018 AfDB annual meeting will be held in Busan, Korea on May 21-25 of the year, which is expected to strengthen economic cooperation between Korea and African countries.

Korea has steadily worked on building up economic cooperation partnership with African countries through programs designed to provide financial aid and share development experience[1], as well as through a ministerial meeting between Korea and AfDB[2].  The 2018 meeting will provide opportunities for Korea to contribute to finding solutions to poverty reduction, industrial development and other issues on the African development agenda.  Korea will actively work to share the Saemaul Undong, a rural development program, and industrial development experience, both of which African countries have the most interest in.

The 2018 meeting will be held along with the KOAFEC ministerial conference, which will be participated in by more than 4,000 representatives from the AfDB member countries, international organizations, private sector businesses, financial institutions and academic circles.  This will provide huge opportunities for participants to develop joint projects.  In addition, the Asia-Africa Business Forum will be newly launched during the meeting, and will provide opportunities for private sector business cooperation.

The meeting will also give chances to Korean businesses that want to participate in development projects in Africa as well as Koreans interested in working overseas.
